Revolution in Education: Telangana Scraps Grading System for SSC Exams, Opts for 100% External Assessment

Telangana SSC Exams: Grading System Removed from 2024-25

Hyderabad: Government Scraps Grading System for SSC Exams, 100% Marks Based on External Assessments

The Telangana SSC Exams will undergo a significant transformation, as theTelangana Government has decided to eliminate the grading system. This change will take effect starting in the academic year 2024-25, marking a major shift in how students are assessed in these crucial exams.

In the new system, students will no longer rely on internal assessments. Instead, their marks will be based solely on external exams. These exams will account for 100% of their total marks. Previously, external exams carried 80 marks, while internal assessments made up 20 marks. With this change, the internal assessment component will be eliminated altogether.

The government has also decided to end the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) system. This system was designed to assess not only academic performance but also students’ overall development. However, the government believes that the new approach, which focuses entirely on traditional external exams, will better reflect academic achievement.

Principal Secretary of the Education Department, Burra Venkatesham, confirmed the change in a memo issued on Thursday. The memo states, “After reviewing the report from the School Education Director, we have granted permission for the new system. From the academic year 2024-25, the SSC exams will follow a model based entirely on external assessments.”

EV Narasimha Reddy, the School Education Director, will oversee the implementation of these changes. He is tasked with ensuring that the transition to the new evaluation system goes smoothly and that students, teachers, and schools are well-prepared for the shift.
