Six Arrested for Secret Cannabis Farms in Nirmal, Ganja Worth Rs. 70 Lakh Seized

Overview of the Operation

Six people were arrested for cultivating ganja as an intercrop. This operation was carried out by Superintendent of Police Dr. Janaki Sharmila and her team. It took place in remote Alampalli and surrounding villages in Kaddampeddur mandal on Monday. As a result, ganja plants worth Rs. 70 lakh were seized from the fields. Furthermore, this operation is seen as a major achievement in the ongoing fight against illegal cultivation in the region. Additionally, it highlights the authorities’ commitment to eradicating illegal cannabis cultivation.

Details of the Arrests

According to Dr. Sharmila, the arrested individuals include Takada Indal, Kasavath Sajanlal, Gothi Ravinder, Kachakand Santosh, Bamane Narender, and Peliya Prathap Singh, all from Mangalsingh Thanda in Kaddampeddur mandal. These individuals were apprehended for secretly cultivating cannabis in their farms. In fact, the arrests were made after a tip-off led to a series of raids on their fields. Consequently, they were arrested for their involvement in the illegal activity, which had been ongoing for some time.

Confessions and Illegal Cultivation Methods

During their interrogation, the six individuals admitted to their actions. They confessed to cultivating ganja as an intercrop in their own farms. Additionally, they rented plots in both their village and neighboring areas. They secretly grew ganja plants among pigeon pea crops, thereby concealing the illicit activity for an extended period. As a result, they managed to avoid detection for a long time. Moreover, this method allowed them to escape the attention of local authorities and the public.

Details of the Seized Cannabis

When the raids were conducted, Indal was found with 83 ganja plants. These plants weighed 48.64 kilograms and had been cultivated over the past four years. The total value of the plants was estimated at Rs. 41.50 lakh. In comparison, Sajanlal and the other accused were found to be cultivating about 12 kilograms of ganja, worth Rs. 31.36 lakh. Therefore, the operation resulted in the seizure of a substantial quantity of cannabis, which has been a significant blow to illegal cultivation activities in the region.

Operation Support and Conclusion

Dr. Sharmila, along with her team, including Nirmal DSP Prabhakar, Khanapur Inspector Saidarao, and Kaddampeddur Sub-Inspector Krishnasagar, led the operation. They were supported by a sniffer dog squad and police staff, which helped ensure the thoroughness and success of the raid. As a result, the operation not only led to arrests but also seized significant quantities of illegal cannabis. Thus, it marks a successful operation in the fight against illegal drug cultivation in the area.
