Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, known as the architect of India’s economic reforms, has passed away at the age of 92. The sad news was confirmed by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, where Singh was admitted to the Emergency ward in critical condition around 8.30 PM. According to an AIIMS bulletin released on December 26, Singh was undergoing treatment for age-related medical conditions when he experienced a sudden loss of consciousness at home. Despite immediate resuscitative measures taken at home, he was rushed to the medical emergency at AIIMS Delhi at 8.06 PM. Unfortunately, all efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at 9.51 PM. Singh served as Prime Minister for two terms in the Congress-led UPA government from 2004 to 2014. His tenure saw significant economic reforms that are credited with transforming India’s economic landscape. He is survived by his wife Gurcharan Singh and three daughters. As news of his hospitalization spread, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Sonia Gandhi rushed to the hospital to be by his side. Singh, who previously served as the Finance Minister under Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao, was the mastermind behind the economic reforms of 1991 that rescued India from financial crisis and paved the way for economic liberalization. His passing comes as the Congress party concluded a crucial Congress Working Committee meeting in Belagavi, Karnataka, where top party leaders were in attendance. Party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi are reportedly en route to Delhi from Belagavi to pay their respects. For more updates, visit The Hans Bharat website.
